Roswell UMC in suburban Atlanta, Georgia is currently seeking a full-time Director of Children’s Ministry, directly responsible for the comprehensive, Christian discipleship of more than 300 children from birth through fifth grade. This position provides leadership for the Children’s Ministry team, which includes a four person professional staff and over 75 adult volunteers in its Sunday morning nursery and Kidz Zone large group/small group program for preschool and elementary, as well as additional ministry programs such as Vacation Bible School and Morning in Bethlehem.
Qualifications of a successful candidate include:
--Minimum of bachelor’s degree with Christianity and Christian Education/Children’s Ministry credits. Certification in Christian Education or Children’s Ministry is preferred.
--Child development expert – birth to older elementary
--7-10 years professional, local church experience with at least 3 years as a proven servant leader/manager/team builder of staff and volunteers.
--Broad and current knowledge of curriculum resources and educational strategies/philosophies within the UMC; champion of the Wesleyan tradition.
The children’s ministry team works out of two buildings that house: a 400-seat elementary Kidz Zone auditorium with state-of-the-art staging, sound, and lighting for live productions; two centralized, computer check-in centers; 21 small group meeting rooms; the Children’s Library; four furnished nursery rooms; and indoor and outdoor playgrounds. The team also manages well over $100,000.00 in ministry funds and equipment.
Salary is commensurate with experience and the compensation plan includes vacation and sick-time. Health insurance and pension is available. PURPOSE: Responsible for directing the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive music ministry for all ages.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Under the direct supervision of the Pastor and as a member of the staff, interact on a regular basis with other staff members, the various church committees and the congregation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLIITIES: These include
+ Coordinating the music ministry with the other ministries of the church and in coordination with the seasons of the liturgical calendar.
+ Assisting the Pastor in planning all congregational worship, including weekly worship and other special services.
+ Playing the piano and/or organ.
+ Supervising the music library and all other equipment and supplies.
+ Overseeing the proper care of choir robes and stoles.
+ Leading the Chancel choir rehearsal weekly.
+ Leading and scheduling rehearsals for other groups (youth & children).
+ Planning and implementing the annual youth choir tour.
+ Arranging special music during the year.
+ Recruiting and working with special musicians (soloists and instrumentalists).
+ Providing music weekly for the Wednesday After School program.
+ Participating in and encouraging music outreach to the community.
+ Keeping informed on current music methods, materials, worship styles, promotion
and administration.
+ Attending weekly staff meetings and monthly meetings as required by the pastor.

Two traditional Sunday morning worship services are held in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Dothan, AL and focus on liturgy, prayers, preaching, and music in a variety of styles from classical to gospel.
